AP065 Senior Systems / Web Server Administrator / NASA

Toss that suit and tie and come work with the movers and shakers, those few that represent the pinnacle of human achievement. NASA. Make a difference. Change your life. NASA has been voted top 50 Places in United States to work since 2010.

NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center nestled in the Maryland suburbs of Greenbelt is just 30 minutes from the heartbeat of America – Washington, D.C. Now you can have it all, the nightlife, museums, great food and theatre. Work in a place that pushes the envelope of science every day, yet spy a deer or a Canadian goose as you stroll the grounds of Goddard during lunch.

We are seeking a systems/webserver administrator (5-10 years of experience) for an unusually challenging Linux, Apache, MySQL, and ColdFusion-based environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing centralized web services to customers of a VMware-based, virtualized data center, serving the Goddard Space Flight Center’s Sciences & Exploration Directorate: the SEDVME. The SEDVME provides IaaS for non-web related VMs, while maintaining centralized full-support system administration for a public-facing, chrooted web environment that also includes load-balanced pairs of VMs, F5 load-balancer servers, etc. Linux OS administration is a must, since the web services infrastructure relies upon it. Beyond administration of the Directorate-level web sites, the position requires new VME user support & troubleshooting, helping projects comply with requirements such as NAMS (NASA Account Management System), as well as VME help desk support. Familiarity with NASA and Federal IT standards is a plus, as is experience with the needs and expectations of a scientific organization, all combined with a willingness to support a challenging/evolving set of requirements.

Required:
• BS in a computer-related, technical, or physical science field
• Experience with Linux OS administration
• Experience with Apache-based webservers

Must be a U.S. citizen

Desired:
• Familiarity with working within and supporting a VMware-based, virtualized environment
• Experience supporting a Coldfusion environment
